Lickrish Food Tours: Original Bajan Walking Food Tour Review
Barbados food tours are the best way to explore the island’s vibrant culture through its flavours.
Its unique blend of African, British, and Caribbean influences makes Bajan food some of the most delicious. I can’t get enough of their fresh fish and hot pepper sauce so much that I’ve visited this island multiple times!
Whether you’re sampling fresh seafood, enjoying classic side dishes, or learning the history behind these beloved dishes, Lickrish Food Tours offers a delicious adventure you won’t forget.
Let’s get right into everything you need to eat your way through Barbados including what’s included, tips for booking your tour, and my tour review.

About the Company
Lickrish Food Tours is a tour operator in Barbados that offers food tours in Bridgetown, Saint Lawrence and a 4-city option. The staff are fun to be around and very knowledgeable about local food and history.
Location
Lickrish Food Tours Barbados is located in Bridgetown but they have a few different food tours around the island.
For the Original Bajan Walking Food Tour, you will meet at the Errol Walton Barrow Statue for your walking tour. It’s easy to find, but you can ask any local for directions to Independence Square if needed.

About the Bajan Walking Food Tour
The Bajan Walking Food Tour is a 2.4 km (1.5 miles) guided walking tour around the capital Bridgetown. You’ll learn about local food, architecture, and history.
Enjoy the morning as you spend 3 hours eating at 8 local restaurants and vendors. Where you will taste a hand-picked dish representing the best of Barbados and locals’ favourite dishes.
The tour is family-friendly, with no alcoholic beverages. This made it perfect for someone like me who doesn’t drink alcohol or who plans to drive to and from the tour.
While the dishes are kept secret to add to the adventure of the food tour, they can accommodate vegetarian diets. With notice, they can try and accommodate food allergies. But seafood lovers don’t need to worry, because there’s enough seafood as you hoped.
Operating every day except for Sundays and holidays, it’s great for any season.
This is a small group tour with 12 people maximum per guide.
Even if you’ve been on other food tours in the Caribbean, you’ll find that every island puts their own unique spin on similar dishes. So even the Caribbean couple with us on our tour enjoyed seeing how it was different from how they eat it on their island.
Note: It is not a loop tour, so it doesn’t end at the meeting point. It ends close to the parking lot (for those driving around Barbados).

What It’s Like
I met the guide and the rest of the group in Independence Square. There were 5 of us on our tour, including our lovely guide Janelle.
I was excited to start as I love food tours and have enjoyed them in Canada and Thailand.
From our meeting spot, we walked around downtown learning about the history of Barbados. It was a short walk between most of the stops. And even time to scout where to shop.
At each of the 8 stops, we were served classic Bajan dishes including beef, seafood, pork, side dishes, local fruits, and sweets.
The first one was savoury and delicious. The second and fourth stops were interesting flavours and were not what I would choose for myself but I tried them to explore different flavours. The third and fifth stops were my favourite. Stop six surprised me with the spices and stop seven I had to take home because I was too full. The last stop was a perfect finish for a hot day.

The food was so good that I almost enjoyed everything and even the few I wasn’t sure about surprised the picky eater in me. And I found a few items I ate again and again on the rest of my Barbados trip.
There was a good variety of flavours and I was happy with the portion size. Portions were slightly smaller or the same size as a regular portion. Which quickly filled me up.
While it can be nerve-wracking to eat in a group in case you don’t vibe, our group fit well and made the tour even better.
When the tour ends, you can continue on your own around town or head back to your Barbados hotel. I chose to explore a bit and then head to swim and have dinner at my accommodations.

Tips for Your Barbados Food Tour
- Plan your food tour at the beginning of your trip to Barbados. You’ll find places that you may eat at multiple times like I did
- Wear comfortable shoes as this is a walking food tour and you will walk all around Bridgetown
- Request accommodations in advance for food allergies
- Come hungry. It’s a lot of food
- Bring a bag to carry your leftovers back to your hotel with you. Many guests, including myself had leftovers
Things to Do Nearby
- Carlisle Bay – a short bus/taxi ride away where you can swim with turtles and shipwrecks
- Boat Tour – go on a sunset boat tour after your tour. I went on their morning boat tour but they also offer a sunset one
- Rihanna Drive Monument – see the exterior of Rihanna’s childhood house
Lickrish Food Tour Review & Final Thoughts
I really enjoyed our Barbados food tour with Lickrish. One of my favourite things about the tour was learning how to tell if a dish is authentic and how it should taste when made properly.
Bajan flavours are some of my favourite and this food tour solidified that.
My only critique would be to offer more beverage options, even just at the restaurant stop. The tour only includes water, and it would’ve been nice to also have a soft drink.
Lickrish Food Tours is one of the best tours in Barbados for a reason.
Add this food tour to your itinerary for Barbados and you’ll walk away with a full stomach, a deeper appreciation for Bajan culture, and maybe even a new favourite dish or two (like I did)!
Happy travelling!
