Level8 Luggage Review: Is It Worth It?

Before trying Level8, I primarily travelled with Osprey backpacks or a soft-sided Travelpro suitcase. Their Luminous Textured collection was my first experience using hard-shell luggage, so I was curious to see how it would compare with the luggage I already use.

I tested the Level8 Luminous Textured 28” Checked suitcases on a 10-day trip to Newfoundland, packing two adults’ belongings into each suitcase. The suitcases were checked on two flights and moved between accommodations during a road trip around the province.

My first impression? I liked the Level8 luggage set and plan to continue using it. The suitcases had plenty of space, rolled exceptionally smoothly, and the interior organization and built-in combination locks were convenient.

Now, I have only tested the checked luggage on one trip so far and have not yet tested the carry-ons during travel. So, this is an honest review of my experience so far and not a long-term durability test.

Disclosure: Level8 provided me with the luggage featured in this review at no cost in exchange for an honest review. All thoughts, opinions, and experiences are my own. Quick Verdict: Is Level8 Luggage Worth It?

Yes, Level8 luggage is worth considering if you want premium hard-shell luggage with exceptionally smooth-rolling wheels, plenty of packing space, and useful organizational features.

My biggest cautions are the price, the possibility of exceeding airline weight limits because of its generous interior space, and the fact that the carry-ons are too large for some airlines.

My Experience Using Level8 Luggage

Packing for a 10-Day Trip

The Level8 Luminous Textured 28” Checked suitcases had plenty of space for our Newfoundland trip. We packed two adults’ belongings into each suitcase, including warm clothing, shoes, and toiletries, which allowed us to avoid paying for additional checked luggage with Porter Airlines.

I also liked the interior compartments, which made it easier to keep our belongings organized instead of having everything mixed together in one large space.

The main thing to be aware of is that the suitcases have so much space that it is easy to overpack. Even when there is still room left inside, you may already be close to or over your airline’s weight limit.

I had to repack my suitcases after discovering they were 2 pounds overweight. So I recommend weighing your luggage before heading to the airport, especially if you tend to fill all the available space.

Moving Through the Airport

The Level8 wheels were my favourite feature.

They rolled exceptionally smoothly, making the suitcases easy to maneuver through the airport. In fact, they rolled so smoothly that I had to be careful when letting go because the luggage would continue rolling away from me.

This is something to keep in mind when travelling somewhere hilly, such as Quebec City or Lisbon, Portugal. You don’t want your luggage to run away from you!

Compared with my Travelpro suitcase, I found the Level8 luggage rolled noticeably smoother. After both flights, the wheels were still rolling well, and I did not experience any major issues with the suitcases.

The Built-In Combination Locks

I also liked having the combination locks built into the luggage.

Previously, I used separate luggage locks, which meant having one more thing to remember to pack and keep track of. Having the lock built into the suitcase was more convenient and kept everything together.

How Did the Luggage Hold Up?

The Level8 cases were checked on two flights and used throughout our 10-day Newfoundland road trip, where we moved them between accommodations and loaded them in and out of the car every day or two.

One of the suitcases did get scuffed after I knocked it against a wall before the trip even started. So, if keeping your luggage looking brand new is important to you, I’d recommend you buy a luggage cover.

Since I have only used the luggage on two flights and one road trip so far, I plan to update this review as I get more experience with its long-term durability.

What I Liked and What I Didn’t

Pros

  • Exceptionally smooth-rolling wheels
  • Spacious interior with useful organizational compartments
  • Built-in combination locks eliminate the need for separate luggage locks
  • Two 28” suitcases were spacious enough to hold 4 adults’ belongings for a 10-day trip
  • Held up well through two flights and a 10-day road trip so far
  • Hard-shell design offers a different experience from my previous soft-sided luggage

Cons

  • Spacious interior makes it easy to exceed airline weight limits
  • 20” Carry-Ons exceed the size restrictions for some airlines, including Westjet, but Level8 does make an 18” Carry-On
  • Limited colour options for the larger 28” checked luggage
  • Exterior can scuff when knocked against hard surfaces
  • Premium price

Level8 Luggage Is Best For:

  • Travellers who prefer hard-shell luggage
  • People who prioritize smooth-rolling wheels
  • Travellers who like spacious suitcases and organized interiors
  • People willing to pay more for premium luggage
  • Travellers who regularly check luggage and can stay within airline weight limits

It May Not Be Best For:

  • Budget-conscious travellers
  • People who prefer lightweight luggage above all else
  • Travellers who fly airlines with strict carry-on dimensions
  • Anyone looking for luggage that will remain completely scuff-free

So, Is Level8 Luggage Right For You?

Level8 luggage is worth considering if you want premium hard-shell luggage with exceptionally smooth-rolling wheels, plenty of interior space, and useful organizational features.

The price is higher than brands like Osprey and IT but is comparable to other premium luggage brands, including Monos and Away.

Before buying, I recommend checking that the specific suitcase you want fits your airline’s baggage restrictions, especially if you are considering one of the carry-ons.

After using the Level8 Luminous luggage on two flights and a 10-day trip to Newfoundland, I liked the luggage and plan to continue using it.

I will update this review as I get more experience with its long-term durability.
